Italian Wines Hamper

1. Italian Wines - The Essentials:
Reds:

  • Mozzafiato Primitivo 2021, Puglia, IGT (75cl, 13%) - Flavours of dried prune, date and plump cherry, with swathes of sweet spice. A mouth coating, chocolatey red wine. Voluptuous, Dark Cherry, Rich
  • Appassimento Cantina di Negrar, Passito (75cl, 14%) - “Appassimento” is made from indigenous red grape varieties. Following a thorough and rigorous blending process, both the appassimento and traditional methods are fused together in the production of this fine red wine. Colour: ruby red with garnet hints. Perfume: spiced with notes of vanilla and cherry. Flavour: full bodied and round with soft tannins and a long finish with spiced notes. A fine companion for meat dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 16° - 18° C.

Whites:

  • Eccelsa Vermentino di Sardegna 2020/21 (75cl, 13.5%) - Vermentino is the gem of the island of Sardinia. Because it's still relatively unknown, you can find great value with the grape. Like this expression from Eccelsa. It's made by a family whose wines top tables in the best Italian restaurants. It's intense and aromatic, with notes of summer fruits. Excellent with seafood.
  • Contesa Pecorino 2021/22 Colline Pescaresi (75cl, 13%) - Pecorino is an early ripening, thin-skinned grape, native to central parts of Italy. The bunches tend to be very triangular in shape, reminiscent of a sheep's head, said to be the reason for the grape's name. Pale yellow, with a remarkably intense nose of citrus fruits, hints of hawthorn and orange blossom. Soft, clean, but persistent palate texture, with a pleasing mineral complexity. Try with nutty cheeses, such as the wine's sheep's milk cheese namesake, or with simple cod dishes.

2. Italian Wines - The Luxuries:
Reds:

  • Domini Veneti 'La Casetta' Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore 2018/19 - It’s intense and spicy with rich, heady aromas. Expect notes of plum, cherry, chocolate and dried fruits. The silky texture and elegant tannins match perfectly with game dishes or roasted mushrooms.
  • Surani 'Costarossa' Primitivo di Manduria DOC 2020/21 - Ripe, bold reds then vines c silky and soft. But it’s precisely that heat that Primitivo loves. The grapes are left on the vines until they’re almost overripe – giving the flavours incredible concentration. Intense. Velvety. Ripe. It’s full of plummy, red-fruit flavour with moreish spice. Ageing in oak for a year gives it an extra dimension of flavour, smoothing the plush tannins. With a distinctly Italian hint of woody herbs, it's ideal with pasta dishes.

Whites:

  • La Guardiense Falanghina Del Sannio DOC 2022 (75cl, 13.5%) - floral and herbal notes with ripe flavours of tropical fruit. Its refreshing acidity makes it an ideal pairing for white meat or soft cheese.
  • Inama Soave Classico DOC 2021/22 (75cl, 12%) - This rich basaltic lava is mineral-rich and perfect for growing grapes packed with complex flavour. So you can expect ripe flavours of apricot, honey, flowers and almond. Its creamy finish lends itself perfectly to fish pie.
